Assistant Trader
Hill Thompson is looking for applicants for Assistant Trader positions. Those who qualify and are asked to join our staff will enter our on the job training program and will look to become desk traders, equity traders or sales traders.
The ideal candidate should possess many of the following qualifications:
- Quantitative skills, with a strong understanding of probability, statistics, other mathematics and economics.
- Ability to communicate effectively with other Hill Thompson employees across departments and be part of our team.
- Have a thirst for knowledge as well as a need for personal and professional growth.
- Ability to solve problems as they arise quickly within the hectic trading environment on a busy trading desk.
- Understanding of basic tools to function in the marketplace-OMS, BLOOMBERG, BRASS
- Working knowledge of the Securities Market
- Series 7, 63, 55 preferred

Developmental Process
Once you have joined the Hill Thompson Staff as an Assistant Trader, you will be working with one or more of the experienced traders during the trading day performing a variety of tasks such as accessing market data and other information necessary to properly manage equity positions. As you advance you may also be given responsibility to do research relating to new trading opportunities, modeling for enhancing evaluation and future potential, and trade execution. Outside of market hours, Assistant Traders participate in discussions and meetings lead by senior traders with extensive experience. Employees also are involved in weekly trading meetings conducted by more experienced members of the firm. Evaluations and progress measurements are done periodically in order to enhance the learning cycle and maintain forward movement. Hill Thompson looks to train new employees in both the theory and practice of trading in order to enable the learning process to provide the individual with the necessary tools and mind set to succeed in the financial industry. We work to instill the knowledge needed and the thinking capacity to effectively and properly operate in the role of Assistant Trader, leading to new and elevated opportunities at the firm.
